Proposal to waive utility connection charges for shelters

Contact: Carl Schroeder, Shannon McClelland

A proposed bill requires utilities to waive connection charges for homeless shelters and domestic violence shelters.

SB 6414, sponsored by Sen. Derek Stanford (D–Bothell), requires that a public utility must waive connection charges for properties used by a nonprofit organization, local agency, or any other legal entity that provides emergency, transitional, or permanent supportive housing for homeless persons or victims of domestic violence who are homeless for personal safety reasons.

Please let Shannon know if you have concerns.

SB 6414 is scheduled for public hearing in the Senate Local Government Committee at 8 am on Tuesday, January 21.
